Sea Trek in association with the Wilderness Medical Institute
(WMI) and the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) offer
Wilderness First Aid (WFA), Wilderness First Responder (WFR)
and WFR Recert courses each Spring.
WMI of NOLS Wilderness First Aid and First Responder training
programs are nationally recognized programs that train participants
to respond to emergencies in remote settings. The two-day
WFA course covers a wide range of wilderness medicine topics
(see below for complete course outline) for people who travel
and work in the outdoors.
The 80-hour WFR curriculum includes standards for urban and
extended care situations. Special topics include but are not
limited to: wound management and infection, realigning fractures
and dislocations, improvised splinting techniques, patient
monitoring and long term management problems, up-to-date information
on all environmental emergencies, plus advice on drug therapies.
These
courses are pre-approved by such organizations as: The American
Camping Association, the United States Forest Service and
other governmental agencies. The WFA may also be use for wilderness
medicine recertification by those with previous training.
WMI wil recertify current cards from the following organizations
only: WMI, NOLS, SOLO and WMA.
Upon
successful completion of practical and written exams you will
receive a two year WMI of NOLS certification. Not offered
in 2006
The
WFA does not include CPR certification.
The WFR includes a two year Adult Heartsaver CPR certification.
Registration
Policies:
Full payment is required to reserve a space in the course.
Payments may be made via checks, with driver's license number,
Visa/Mastercard or cash. The tuition fee covers textbooks,
syllabus, equipment and certifations. A full refund will be
given if we are forced to cancel the course for any reason.
Cancellation
Policy
If a student cancels or withdraws from a course:
*Greater than or equal to 30 days prior to the course starting
date, WMI will retain a $25 administrative fee.
*Between 29 days to 14 days prior to the course starting date,
WMI will retain 50% of the course tuition.
*13 days prior to the course starting date and throughout
the duration of the course all deposit and tuition moneys
are non-refundable.
*All WMI course registrations are non-transferable.

Wilderness
First Aid Course (16 hours)

Course Outline:
Each day begins at 8 am and is a focused and informative combination
of lecture, hands on practical and participation. What distinguishes
a Wilderness First Responder Course most of all are the daily
Scenarios. Students act out roles of victim, rescuer and trip
leaders. Decision making, communication and problem solving
skills become honed as you learn so much more than just excellent
first aid skills.

WFR
Recert-24 hrs
This three day scenario-based course is designed as review
and practice of evacuation and decision making guidelines.
It also provides wilderness medicine practitioners with current
updates in the wilderness medicine field. This course may
be used to recertify current Wilderness First Responder and
Wilderness EMT (wilderness portion only) certifications from
the following organizations: WMI, NOLS, SOLO, and WMA. CPR
is included. There will be a written examination at the beginning
of this course.
