What to Bring - Daily Items | Angel Island Overnight Only

DAILY ITEMS: Summer weather in the Bay Area can vary from gorgeous and sunny to wind- and fog-swept. We prepare ourselves for whatever comes our way so we can enjoy ourselves both on water and land. Sea Trek provides sit-inside single and two-person kayaks that come equipped with spray-skirts. We also have paddle jackets with neck and wrist closures that are made especially for sea kayaking, and lifejackets that keep us insulated and buoyant while in the water. The following is a list to help ensure that your child is safe, warm, and comfortable for the week.
Lunch: Please provide a lunch for your child each day. Sea Trek will provide food for the Thursday overnight which will include Thursday dinner, breakfast and lunch on Friday and icecream in Tiburon on Friday as well.
Shoes
Any shoes that can get wet and stay on, such as old tennis shoes, Teva type sandals, aqua socks, or neoprene booties work just fine. Thong type sandals
generally do not work because they often fall off and float away.
Shirt
We recommend a synthetic shirt made of fabrics such as polypropylene or capilene. These shirts can be purchased at any outdoor retail store such as REI, Patagonia, North Face or Marin Outdoors. Something long-sleeve is advised to prevent sunburn while on the beach. A dry T-shirt to change into at the end of the day works just fine. Cotton keeps kids cold when it gets wet, and they can get sunburned through the fabric as well.
Swimsuit
Swimsuits are great for those sunny days or to wear under a wetsuit while practicing rescues
Shorts/Pants
We have found that one of the best combinations is a pair of shorts covered by sweat pants. If your child has a tendency to get cold we suggest a pair of polypropylene or capilene bottoms as well under a pair of shorts. Please pack an extra pair of pants to change into at the end of the day.
Jacket
A lightweight windbreak is suggested for off-the-water periods.
Extra Clothing
We suggest an extra set of clothes (shirt, shoes, pants, etc.) to change into at the end of the day, especially if your child has been cold or wet during the day.
Miscellaneous Stuff
Towel
Hat or Visor (this is key to prevent sunburn!)
Sunscreen (waterproof and lots!! Stuff for the lips too)
Sunglasses with retaining strap
Water bottle (one that won't leak laying on its side)
Camera (we can keep them dry while in a kayak)
Day Pack or Duffel
Please pack all of your child's belongings in a day pack or duffel to keep everything together so that we may keep everything safe while your child is on the water.
ANGEL ISLAND OVERNIGHT ITEMS: We will be camping at the Kayak campground across from Tiburon or at Camp Reynolds on the west side of the Island. The Island receives considerable fog and wind. Please prepare for chilly nights and wind with possible drizzle from fog. (Unless it is beautiful and sunny - but who can predict Bay Area weather?)
Something to sleep in, sleep on, keep you dry and warm.

Pack items in a plastic bag, (trash compactor bags are the strongest), and put inside a day pack, stuff sack, or duffle bag (about the size of a pillow case) so that the plastic bag is protected by the material of the pack or sack. Many small sacks is preferable to one large sack.

Food will be provided for Thursday dinner, Friday breakfast and lunch. Don't forget to pack a lunch for Thursday. We will return to Sea Trek by 4 pm on Friday. If weather and water conditions are such that we will not be able to paddle to the island Thursday morning campers will be transported by commercial van to the ferry terminal in Tiburon. If conditions are similar on Friday morning we will take the ferry to Tiburon and a van will take campers to Sea Trek in Sausalito. Pick up will be at 4 pm on Friday if arrival by ferry or kayak. See you there!
