One
of Sea Trek's goals is to turn kids onto kayaking. At
our day camp kids work together in two- and three-person
kayaks as a team paddling to a different destination
each day. Sea Trek's staff are trained to promote safety,
cooperation, communication, and most importantly, fun.
Each day is designed around these elements. Games are
non-competitive; instruction is geared towards instilling
the kids with self-confidence and mutual trust; and
the pace of each day takes into account each campers'
abilities. Our goal is to end the week with a round-trip
to Angel Island. However, Mother Nature and campers'
abilities can change that plan. Should this happen,
Sea Trek will provide transportation via the ferry to
Angel Island and back. Kayaks will be available on the
island for safe journeys along the islands protected
shoreline. Sea Trek provides a motorized safety boat
at all times, during each camp session, which will accompany
the campers should they paddle to and from Angel Island.

1: We'll do introductions and games on
the beach in Sausalito: introduction to the
kayak, paddling lesson, safety lesson, and
a paddle trip in Richardson Bay. |
| Day
2:
We'll paddle to lunch at Strawberry Point
or Mill Valley, exploring the surrounding
estuaries and fascinating houseboat communities
along the way. We'll enjoy games, challenges,
and rescue practice while returning to Sea
Trek in the afternoon. |
| Day
3: We'll begin planning for our overnight
expedition by paddling to a grocery store
where campers will participate in menu planning
and purchasing of the food they'll need for
their trip to Angel Island |
| Day
4: We'll load kayaks, review safety procedures,
and launch our boats from Sausalito to paddle
across Raccoon Straits to Angel Island. Paddling
past rocky cliffs, harbor seal hangouts, and
isolated beaches the expedition lands ashore
to set up camp, explore, hike, and play. Depending
on interest and energy, we'll paddle or hike
to historic sites, enjoy vistas, and explore
tide pools. Weather permitting, well paddle
onto the Bay at sunset to watch the fog tumble
over the Marin Headlands and watch lights
twinkle across The City. |
| Days
5: We'll clean up, pack, and reload kayaks.
There is always more to see! It's time to
get back in our boats and paddle to yet another
enchanting spot for lunch. After lunch we
will catch the ferry to Tiburon for an ice
cream treat. A shuttle will pick us up and
bring us back to the beach at Sea Trek. After
cleaning and unloading, we'll close camp by
savoring the accomplishment of a great and
educational adventure among friends. |
