Meet our Crew — Sausalito
Steve Hayward our General Manager, has paddled in Patagonia, Belize, Guatemala, Ireland and Baja. A few years ago he moved from his boat on the Sausalito waterfront to a lovely cottage one block away from Sea Trek. He lives with his wife Hanneke and his two children Lucas and Tossa. If you are up early enough you will see him out for his morning run. For the past 15 years he has anchored the business. You will see him behind the counter when you come down to rent on the weekends.

Mitch Powers has been at Sea Trek the past 16 years. He is our Senior Guide, staffing coordinator, manager of our Baja program and the office. Mitch has also been our head Baja guide for the last 11 years. When he's not paddling he's usually working on the next book. He has self-published two non-fiction books and is working on several illustrated fairy tales. Winters you'll often find Mitch exploring Central America "pura vida" style!
Jared Licht has been at Sea Trek his whole life. When he is not whitewater kayaking in New Zealand or Patagonia or leading high school trips on the Lost Coast he is managing the beach. He is always ready to jump into the skiff to give support to paddlers on the Bay. He is certified as Wilderness First Responder, and Swiftwater Technician.

Michael Morgan has been at Sea Trek for over fifteen years, and loves teaching all levels of our kayak classes and leading Baja and Belize trips. Michael is truly a "Renaissance Man". He has a background in engineering from Georgia Tech, and was a PhD. Candidate in Marine Biology at the UC Irvine.He has been a professional fashion photographer, an artist, and is currently studying 14th Century martial arts and swordsmanship.


Cheyenne Berry came to the Sea Trek family in 2001 as an intern from San Francisco State. Since then, she can't get enough of sharing the magic of kayaking the Bay Area waterways with people of all ages. When she is not guiding with Sea Trek she is director of the Youth Leadership Program at Environmental Traveling Companions.


Andy Meyer loves the outdoors and anything involving sports. When not guiding our Take the Kids or corporate trips, he is coaching youth soccer for many of the local select clubs. He lives one block away with a perfect view of our watery playground from his deck where he has hosted more than a couple of staff barbeques.

Caitlin Graboski came to Sea Trek in the Spring of 2008. She grew up river and lake kayaking on the East Coast and is now a sea kayaking convert. During the school year, she teaches elementary school in at Marin Country Day School in Corte Madera. She enjoys sharing her love of the outdoors with children. Her hidden talent is tap dancing.

Art Noll is an avid cyclist, mad mechanic, world traveler and attempted poet. Art spends his free time tinkering and dreaming up his next big trip, be it bicycle touring, hiking in the Sierra Nevadas or threading a roadster through New Zealand mountain passes. His kayaking has taken him to the Mississippi River, Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, and The Florida Everglades.
 

Monica Garcia took her first sea kayaking trip with Sea Trek and the Santa Rosa Jr. College Biology Dept. to Drakes Estero more than 10 years ago. The rest, as they say, is history. Monica brings her enthusiasm and knowledge about the natural world to all of our trips. She loves teaching people about the magic of Angel Island and sharing secrets about the stars and constellations on our evening paddles. During the year she is a Special Ed. teacher in Santa Rosa.

Jeb Evans has worked at Sea Trek since 1992 and has been guideding on rivers, lakes and oceans since 1986. He teaches middle school in Berkeley and lives there with his family, Tanja and daughters, Hannah and Avery

Ali Lino is a native of Pt. Reyes Station in West Marin, started swimming on Tomales Bay at the age of two and has been drawn to the water ever since. She scuba dives, surfs and has been a rafting guide on many North American rivers. Ali started her career at Sea Trek when she was still in middle school. Now you'll see her guiding our Sausalito and Tomales trips and helping out at the beach. She is a graduate of UC Santa Cruz in Fine Arts.

Dan Tracy started paddling whitewater in the Sierra and fell in love with coastal sea kayaking. He is an ACA Open Water Coastal Kayak Instructor. Dan has guided in Baja and enjoys our Paddle the Gate and Mendocino Coastal trips. He is also one of the lead guides for our Summer Kayak Camps. When he is not paddling you'll find him managing a local bike shop, surfing, or sailing his boat out of Sausalito. Ask him about any rock formations, he graduated from Sonoma State Univ. with a B.S. in Geology


 

Galen Licht has been paddling since about the time he could walk. His love for kayaking has taken him to rivers all over the US, Chile and Canada. He won the 2010 Santa Cruz Surf Kayak Contest and has been in the top three in World Championships in Spain, Costa Rica and Ireland. He has also won multiple white water rodeo competitions. Kayaking has long been a source of inspiration and adventure for Galen and he looks forward to sharing it with kids on Sea Trek's summer camps. In 2010 he graduated from UC Santa Cruz in Environmental Studies.

Laura May kayaked Blackfish Sound in British Columbia in 1997and found her life changed. She has spent time volunteering with the Marine Mammal Center, Pt. Reyes National Seashore, Earth Island Institute and NOAA. She enjoys sharing her knowledge of the marine mammal populations that are local to SF Bay, Drakes Estero, and Tomales Bay. She spends part of each year leading corporate groups or students throughout most of the United States, Europe, and Mexico. When she is not on the road, you will find Laura in her darkroom dabbling with landscapephotography.

Alex White spends his winters instructing rafting and kayaking for Outward Bound trips in Costa Rica and Chile. During the Sea Trek season you'll find him living on his sailboat in Richardson Bay and teaching/guiding all our trips and classes as well working on the beach. He's Swiftwater Rescue certified and also has earned his EMT (Emergency Medical Training) certification. Alex enjoys writing stories, running, stand up paddleboarding and making ceramics.
Sarah Quick has led trips and traveled to over 60 countries. These expedition skills have proven extremely useful in her current job as a "stay at home" mother of twin girls. She is an avid swimmer, surfer as well as paddler. For more than a decade she has been a core Sea Trek instructor.

Sara Cartwright came to Sea Trek over 10 years ago. She comes to us from Sacramento with a deep background in teaching and natural history. She is one of our core camp staff. Her effervescent personality is infectious and the kids love her. She has taken up residence in Loreto, Mexico leading paddling and whale watching trips.

Chris Young is a third-generation San Francisco native. He brings an intimate knowledge of the Bay Area's best outdoor and indoor treasures. In 2009 Chris hiked several hundred trail-miles in Oakland and Marin and logged just over six hundred hours of San Francisco Bay sea kayak guiding time.
When not sharing an adventure with new friends, Chris can be found wearing his infectious smile while mountain biking, rafting, or snowboarding.


Kirk McLaughlin has been in love with sea kayaking since 1988, having paddled in Alaska, Baja, Belize and all over California. He brings his passion for the natural world on every trip with his 20+ years of environmental education and an endless breadth of "factoids." Kirk's love of kayaking extends to rivers and ocean surfing where you'll often see him riding waves at Bolinas as he stays in shape for his 4th trip down the Grand Canyon in 2011.

Ellie Houston is a circus performer extraordinaire, personal trainer, and swimmer as well as an exceptional Sea Trek guide and summer kayak camp leader. Her energy and smile are infectious.
Leo Sands began paddling canoes at the tender age of three in his home state of Connecticut.  But quickly found a love for Sea Kayaking  and ultimately became an ACA certified Sea Kayak Instructor in 2005.  He loves all things biking as well as stand up paddle boarding.  We are most proud of his SUP headstand!  Leo likes to say, "There is a place for every person in paddle sports!"
