CLASS DESCRIPTION
This instructional experience is intended for sea kayakers who are looking to develop the practical skills and understanding of tides and currents needed to paddle safely in tidal waters such as San Francisco Bay, and to get well-supported rough water experience and practice in the Yellow Bluff tide race.
The trip is conducted in single traditional sea kayaks. It is intended for those paddlers who’ve taken Sea Trek instructional classes, and wish to gain more experience while enhancing their skills in more challenging conditions outside our normal boundaries (Richardson Bay).
What you’ll learn: We’ll experience tides, eddies, currents, and wind interacting with one another, and learn the effects of these interactions and how to navigate such waters with skills such as attainment, eddying out, peeling out, ferrying, and optional rescues in current.
Directions
We leave from the boat ramp in front of the US Coast Guard Station Golden Gate in Ft. Baker, off Sommerville Road. The most convenient parking is on either side of Sommerville Road, past the Coast Guard Station.
